Australian Sophia Hill and Humble Glory have completed their first Burghley Horse Trials in style, jumping clear on the final day to place 22nd in a 66-strong field.
The pair finished on a total of 56.3, adding just 8.4 cross country time faults and an unlucky frangible pin (11 penalties) to their CCI5*L PB dressage score of 36.9.
Sophia and her off the track Australian Thoroughbred continued their record of not having a show jumping rail down at a UK event, having also jumped clear in their CCI4*S starts at Bicton, Bramham and Hartpury. Only the frangible pin on Saturday’s cross country prevented them from holding the same record in that phase as well.
“It was a perfect final day at Burghley Horse Trials, with Hughie jumping a clear show jumping round. He really is the best!” said Sophia following the pair’s superb performance.
With a successful UK campaign under the belt – which began back in April and included time training in the Australian Olympic staging camp as reserves – Sophia and Hughie will now fly home to Australia on Tuesday. “We are really looking forward to catching up with everyone back home in Australia after being away for such a long time!”
